Asthma: Environmental Irritants
Air pollution covers a wide variety of irritants that can precipitate asthma symptoms that may lead to treatments in emergency rooms and hospitals. Bronchospasms can result from inhaled ozone and other respirable particulates. What are two drugs that may be included in the treatment of asthma for this particular symptom?

Women’s Health: Menopause and Pregnancy
Spontaneous pregnancies are still possible when women are in their 50s. Until your patient has experienced amenorrhea for twelve consecutive months and has completed her childbearing, protection is still necessary. Safety Alert: Vytorin
The FDA’s ongoing review of the combination drug Vytorin® (ezetimibe/simvastatin) and its safety continue to be of concern. Vytorin® has been found to cause elevation of some liver enzymes, has many drug-drug interactions and the risk of a rare condition of muscle injury. Review the investigative reports from the SEAS TRIAL and ENHANCE Study for further information.

“Medication Use Safety Training for Seniors”
A new national education awareness campaign to promote safe and appropriate medicine use among American’s older adults is now available for you and your older patients. MUST for Seniors is a program launched by the National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) with educational resources and Quick Facts supporting the need to be knowledgeable of medications and their risks and benefits. A fact sheet is provided for further reference.

“Chronic Pain in America: Roadblocks to Relief”
According to the Joint Commission, nearly a third of Americans will experience chronic pain at some point in their lives. Approximately 50 Million Americans live with chronic pain and is the number one cause of adult disability in the U.S. A Congressional mandate - 2000 to 2010 is the Decade of Pain Control and Research. Now in the sixth year, an increased awareness shows an increase in available programs and initiatives for improved care, education and awareness. The American Pain Society’s Survey reveals some interesting thoughts that impact all of us. Check out the resources and Survey results for applicable steps in your case management practice.
