Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease : Pathogenesis
The development of COPD is based on a variety of factors including airway inflammation and pulmonary vascular changes. Their intensity and characteristics vary as the disease progresses. Additionally, it is thought that an imbalance of proteinases and antiproteinases in the lung also occurs and advances the disease.

Diabetes: Vitamins and Minerals
Persons with diabetes, it has been shown, can benefit from vitamin supplementation. An example would be: daily intake of 1000 to 1200 mg of elemental calcium appears to be safe and is likely to reduce the incidence of metabolic bone disease. Included in this group of people would be: strict vegetarians, the elderly, pregnant or lactating women, those taking medications known to alter micronutrient metabolism and people in critical care environments.

CM Walk
A great conversation is one that is being heard at a deeper level than the normal chit chat. Central to this talk is the close attention each person gives with whatever is presented at the time in the conversation. Using open-ended statements and focusing your eyes on the speaker, will enhance your commitment to the conversation. Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee, and just as hard to sleep after!

World AIDS Day – 20th Anniversary
In the Headlines . . .
“World’s AIDS Day – 20th Anniversary” – is today!
Even though today has been set aside for World’s AIDS day, in the U.S., the Dept of HHS has designated this month for HIV/AIDS Awareness Days. Blogging, targeted AIDS websites, mobile resources for testing sites, and fact sheets are available to help in educating, motivating, and mobilizing against this global epidemic. Take action and encourage your patients/clients to join the community.
