Multiple Sclerosis: Environment
Moderate and cool climate countries are locations where multiple sclerosis can occur, especially in the regions at a greater distance from the equator. Viruses are primary suspects in possible infections of children and youth before the age of 15. Retroviruses, most likely candidate as noted in serologic studies, can include Human herpes virus and HHV6 (childhood roseola). Many viruses and bacterium could be the MS autoimmune trigger, but the manner and mechanism in how this occurs is still the focus in continued research today.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Manifestations
Dry eye syndrome is due to a deficiency of the tear film layers with symptoms that include burning, photophobia, and grittiness. Treatment to ease these symptoms can include avoiding dry environments, using room humidifiers, and wearing sunglasses. When a dry mouth is included with the dry eyes, this is referred as secondary Sjogren’s syndrome. Other ocular manifestations of RA include: Episcleritis (inflammation directly beneath the conjunctiva), Scleritis (inflammation of the sclera), Scleromalacia perforans (hardening of tissues) and rare conditions like retinal detachments and corneal ulcers.

“Pain Killers Linked to Increase in Overdose Deaths”
Researchers noted in the latest edition of the Journal of AMA, show that deaths from overdoses of prescription drugs are rising in the U.S. They have seen a large increase in unintentional deaths, shown through patterns of doctor shopping for drugs and overdosing on medications that are not prescribed. Drugs commonly seen include methadone, hydrocodone, and oxycodone. Women doctor shop more than men and young people used pain killers for non-medical purposes. Better management of chronic pain as well as the detection and treatment of abuse are some of the steps needed to curb the increasing rate of deaths.
