COPD: Key Indicators
A diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should be considered in any patient who has chronic cough [i.e. present every day], sputum production [any pattern of production], dyspnea [progressive, persistent, worsens with exercise and respiratory infections] and has a history of exposure to risk factors for the disease. Confirmation by standardized spirometry, the diagnosis can differentiate COPD from asthma and help to defray the progression of the destruction of the lungs and the loss of functionality.

CV Risk: Complications
Sixty million and counting….that is the number of people in the U.S. who have high blood pressure and could experience many different types of complications. Kidney damage or kidney failure, loss of vision, stroke, heart attacks, and congestive heart failure are six of the ten possible complications that could result from poorly managed hypertension. Antihypertensive medicines will help to decrease the blood pressure and can be one means to minimize complications.

Caring 4 U
Now that the New Year has begun, starting off right is the goal for all of us whether we think about it or not. One area that comes to mind entails new resolutions or actions that we incorporate into our lives that can make a difference for others as well as for ourselves. Change is a noteworthy term that offers a chance to move in a new direction and try something different. We spend a good portion of our days/work caring for others. While we sustain others, we should also care for ourselves. Remembering the little things and incorporating them into our day-to-day interactions will support our daily needs. Nutrition and healthy choices is a good place to start.

Ask whatever you like and vote up or down on the other questions to let them know which ones you most want the Transition to answer. I have posted two questions and have voted on 100’s of other questions on subjects ranging from education to foreign affairs. Come join the some 80,000+ people who have participated. If nothing else, it will open you eyes that what your neighbor may be saying!

“Tainted Weight Loss Pills Flagged as Health Risk”
Harmful to the consumer’s health, the FDA has sent out an alert identifying more than 25 different products that fit this category. Containing undeclared and active ingredients that may be illegal, the seriousness of the situation is warranting further action and warnings. With New Year’s resolutions abounding - weight loss is a hot topic. Alluring products that ‘promise’ weight loss could also produce undesired symptoms and death. Check out the cited list of products as well as the recommended tips for your patients.
