Asthma: Functional Status
Quality of life is impacted by your patient’s understanding of the disease as well as how they are controlling their day-to-day activities and lives overall. Key questions to aid in assessing how they are doing could include: any disturbances in sleep; any missed work or school; a change in caregiver activities due to a child’s asthma, or even a reduction in usual daily activities due to their asthma. Any unscheduled emergency or hospital visits warrants further investigation and interventions to aid in returning good management of your patient’s asthma.

Women’s Health: Is it Menopause?
The new life stage is no longer a subject spoken of behind closed doors. A large percentage of women today, are reaching this stage in life. The average age for menopause is 51. Qualifiers for menopause are the cessation of menstrual periods and no period for 12 consecutive months. Pre-menopause can begin relatively early and contribute multiple physical and psychological changes for many years. Post menopause can be a bit shorter but can last up to 5-7 years.

Limitations

Refined, sweetened, and salty food products should not be a mainstay item in your daily consumption. Easy, convenient, and cheap provides an emptiness of immunity-building blocks and invites increased weight, sluggishness, and bodily stressors. Substitutions and limitations done on a gradual basis allows for streamlining change and adapting to a more health-conscious pattern of nutrition. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/pyramid-full-story/index.html

The social media website provides tools for both consumers as well as all partners involved in keeping us well and free of illness or even death. Available are blogs, podcasts, and even Twitter for your interactive communication. The CDC has a phone line available 24/7 with up-to-date information on recalls and hundreds of health and safety topics. [1-800-CDC-INFO]. Many of these sources are available in English and Spanish.
