COPD: Bronchodilation Therapy
Beta-agonists use dates back to 3000 BC with the use of ephedrine in Chinese herbal preparations. Epinephrine, a synthetic version developed in 1903 was later replaced with drugs that exhibited less alpha-adrenergic and beta¹-adrenergic activities [cause muscle to relax]. Albuterol, introduced in 1968, is one of five beta²-selective adrenergic agonists. The others include: Fenoterol, Terbutaline, Formoterol and Salmeterol.

CRC: Colonoscopy
As one of the six common screening exams for CRC, the colonoscopy can be completed via the conventional way or by the virtual colonoscopy route (VC). There are advantages and disadvantages for both exams including: pre-exam preparation; access and route taken for exams; costs associated with completing the exam versus overall screening outcomes; as well as the end results and follow-through implementation of interventions. Regardless of the mode of examination taken, recommendations for regular screening for all adults aged 50 years and older remains. Persons with higher risk should begin screening at a younger age.

Food Police

You can still enjoy your favorites on occasion and in moderation but always keeping in mind the final goal of healthy eating and staying well. Sweets, fried foods, and salty snacks may be sources of pleasure for the moment but should not be a mainstay in your daily dietary intake. Always be aware of how much sodium you ingest because often it is hidden in many food products we have access to in our kitchens and lunch pails.
