Asthma: Relationship
The relationship between airway inflammation, hyperresponsiveness, obstruction, and asthma symptoms is directly related to the stimuli (allergen, irritant, virus, cold air, exercise) exposure. For about half of patients with asthma who inhale an allergen, symptoms recur 4-8 hours after the initial narrowing of the airways. Reducing airway inflammation can lessen airway hyperresponsiveness, lessen asthma symptoms and decrease the need for frequent use of bronchodilators which controls the asthma.

Multiple Sclerosis: Initial Contact
Women between ages 20 and 50 years comprise the larger percentage of patients diagnosed with MS. Urgent concerns and issues relevant to the younger adults’ active career and family life require early identification, planning, and considerations in addressing the possible struggles and challenges that will be encountered in their lives. Financial planning should include life care planning, benefits, and coverages available for medications, therapies and other interventions needed in the short term as well as long term management of their disease and symptoms.

Workplace Loyalty - Skills and Attitudes
With the regulated licensure and certification requirements in health care, our training and hands-on experiences provide us with the appropriate skills and knowledge to help our patients. But there is more to just doing something for the sake of the moment in this profession. Personal attitudes that speak of a passion and willingness to extend your hand in care beyond the clinical picture should match your enthusiasm and commitment to the profession. Overall, your patients, your peers, and you will benefit from that extra little spark of human interaction and sincerity.

“Comparative Effectiveness Funding…”
The recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) include new opportunities to provide patients, clinicians, and other evidence-based information to make informed decisions about health care. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will have $300 million to build on its existing collaborative and transparent Effective Health Care program and will have guidance from a number of governmental Councils and the Institute of Medicine. Their website has information on this new initiative as well as the opportunity to provide your thoughts.
