Improving Outcomes in Pain Management:: Pain Affects Millions of Americans
“One in four U.S. adults say they suffered a day-long bout of pain in the past month, and 1 in 10 say the pain lasted a year or more” as quoted from the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. Pain affects millions and the exact toll can be measured in number of lives affected by pain as well as the quality of life for those people. But it goes far beyond those statistical numbers. The growing health care burden and associated costs of mismanagement of pain has contributed to a stifling stalemate that is serving no one. But with this awareness has come innovative and targeted directions for understanding and managing pain.

Diabetes: Risk Factor - Lipids
Abnormal lipid levels, elevated plasma triglyceride and lowered high-density lipoprotein levels can be found often in patients with impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and total cholesterol levels are comparable for persons with type 2 diabetes and matched individuals without diabetes. For both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic populations, the correlation between hyperglycemia and HDL levels is poor and suggests a complex interrelationship.

Workplace Loyalty – Cultural Immersion
The industry of healthcare has its own culture and can be frightening to anyone knew to the environment and its unique expectations. With the growing shortage of capable and willing workers, the opportunity to draw in new hires as well as integrate a diversified and aging work force requires a revised mindset and zeal. Buddies, mentors, and co-hearts are needed and required to ease the transition of newness, training and the acclimation of skills. Beyond the preceptor programs, taking the time to immerse them in friendships and socialization within your working environment helps them cross the cultural bridge.
