Colorectal Cancer: Patient Education
Incorporating the risk factors of CRC for all of your general health care education with your patients should include these three objectives: 1) provide information on CRC and how often it occurs, 2) describe CRC preventive methods, and 3) provide current facts about which people/groups of people would most likely be helped by following CRC preventive methods. Specific screening strategies should be based on patient adherence, available resources and medical contraindications.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Drug-Drug Interactions
Caution…Caution is advised when oral corticosteroids and NSAIDs are used together. This is especially true for patients with a prior history of peptic ulcer disease or gastrointestinal bleeding or for the elderly and debilitated patients. If concomitant therapy is followed, patients should be advised to take the medications with food and to immediately report severe abdominal pain, dizziness, lightheadedness and/or black, tarry stools. Prompt assessment/treatment by the treating physicians should follow if these symptoms are identified.

Pause for a Moment
Honesty – is it easy or difficult when faced in times of change? Do you always have an answer? Probably not, but telling others what you know and what you don’t know, and when you expect to have an answer or explanation, makes you a ‘straight shooter.’ Trusting that you will do what you say you will do and actually fulfilling this action, your patients and peers will believe and respond accordingly. Failing to follow through or neglecting to fill in the blanks, may cause unnecessary anxiety due to lack of information and direction.
