Cardiovascular Risk: Preconception Care
Women with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes should plan for their pregnancies as well as receive preconception care to minimize complications both for themselves as well as for their preborn infants. Several studies and on-going clinical trials have shown a difference between those who received pre-pregnancy care and those who did not receive adequate care. To minimize complications, it has been found that an interactive model of care may include: education components on diabetes & self management skills, physician-directed care, and when indicated, behavioral health professional counseling.

Multiple Sclerosis: Other Therapies
CAM – complimentary and alternative medicine continues to be mainstreamed into the self-management and care intervention for many patients. Herbal medicines are often used as drugs but may contain compounds that may interfere or even be toxic when combined with prescriptions meds. Variances in their composition of preparations are also widely known and can result in adverse reactions with patients who use them. While cranberry tablets are useful for urinary tract infections and psyllium is used for constipation, only the Psyllium is FDA approved. Some of the other herbal medicines are under investigation and research to assure safety and quality are not compromised.

Excellence in Case Mgmnt
Pause for a Moment
Research and expert opinions continue to reflect that positive recognition in the workplace fosters job satisfaction, builds self-esteem, and reinforces desired performance. It shapes a ‘magnetic’ culture that attracts and keeps the very best people. Remembering that recognition is about acknowledging good results and reinforcing positive performance, we all can share and ‘catch’ each other doing something good. Over time, good stuff will be noticed regularly and everyone will benefit.
