GI Disorders: Ongoing Disorder
Crohn’s disease (CD) can be found anywhere along the digestive tract. It is an ongoing disorder that also causes inflammation and swelling of the gastrointestinal tract (GI). This inflammation nearly always – is found in the ileocecal region, which consists of the last few inches of the small intestine (ileum). This portion of the intestines moves digesting food to the beginning portion of the large intestine(cecum).

Asthma: Medications
Moderate Persistent Asthma’s treatment plan has been revised by the NAEPP – National Asthma Education & Prevention Program based on improved outcomes in their findings. Preferred treatment for both children over age 5 and adults is the addition of long-acting inhaled beta² agonists to low-to-medium doses of inhaled corticosteroids. Strong evidence from clinical trials shows improvements in lung functions and symptoms.

Dirty Things in our Homes/Offices
Additional surface items that also warrant keeping clean are the computer keyboards – whether a PC, laptop, or any of the mobile devices where fingers tap away as well as touch other things that have germs on them. Eating, sneezing, or surfing the internet invites E. coli or staph to catch a ride on your fingers. Quick Fix: Wash your hands. If eating at your desk, keep crumbs away from the keyboard. Shake out/vacuum it and gently wipe the keys with alcohol wipes. Don’t forget to wipe the mouse also.

“Rules on use of medical marijuana”
The U.S. Department of Justice recently released a memorandum stating that patients with serious illnesses who use medical marijuana, in compliance with state laws, such as is found in the state of Oregon, will not be prosecuted based on federal criminal laws against it. The rules do not legalize it, as stated by US Attorney General Eric Holder. The Justice department “will not tolerate drug traffickers who hide behind claims of compliance of state laws to mask activities that are clearly illegal.” For more information, check out the Justice Department’s website - formal guidelines on how this will be implemented.

“FDA: NO H1N1 Flu Supplements Allowed!”
In the midst of the nationwide push to distribute and help vaccinate U.S. citizens for the novel flu, some website companies have been feeding off of the frenzy and have been marketing some of their products as treatments or cures for the H1N1 virus. The FDA and FTC have jointly issues warning letters to these companies and have them posted for us on the Dept of Health and Human Services website. Additionally, a special Video for kids centers on the importance of getting a flu vaccine, along with a H1N1 Flu self-evaluation tool that just may help answer a few questions about symptoms of the flu. Check it the website weekly to stay on top of the most up to date information. A link to www.flu.gov is also available.
