Pain Management: Acute pain + Population
Hospital emergency departments process more than 33 million patients yearly with approximately 161,000 deaths resulting from trauma, firearms, poisonings and suffocation. Demographic data reveal that among the younger population motor vehicle accidents are the most frequent causes of injuries and mortalities. Among the older population (65 +) the leading causes of nonfatal injuries include slips, falls and concurrent medical events such as strokes and myocardial ischemia.

Rheumatoid Arthritis: Cardiac Complications
Most people with rheumatoid arthritis have some inflammation of the heart lining. Usually this problem does not cause noticeable symptoms but for some people, there is chest pain. Glucocorticoid medications can ease the inflammation when the pericarditis is in the early stages. Sometimes, in rare cases, the pericardium thickens and constricts the function of the heart. Surgery can generally restore the heart function if the pericardium is removed.
