MS Drug Therapies Our Athena Forum MS Course has been updated to reflect new pharmacologic agents available for our MS patients. One is Tysabri® (Natalizumab): A disease modifying agent that is approved for treatment as a single agent, (not to be used in combination with other disease modifying agents) for relapsing forms of MS. Due to the associated risks, it is typically used when there has been no demonstrated benefits following use of other agents.

Pain Management: Migraines Raising awareness of health conditions and promoting healthy people comes in many forms; one is highlighting conditions on a monthly basis. June is no different as it is National Headache month. To review symptoms that frequently accompany migraine headaches go to Athena Forums course on Pain Management, Module D, chapter 6 for detailed information.

FDA Partnerships on Drugs
The commercial of ‘a better educated consumer is….’ goes beyond retail clothing to the desire to be better informed about their health. This is certainly encouraged by case managers in practicing patient-centered care. However how do we know or suggest ‘outside resources’ that are reliable and provide correct information? Recently the FDA announced a relationship with Drugs.com, which states: “The FDA’s partnership with Drugs.com means that reliable, useful, and timely health information will be available to an even wider audience,” said Beth Martino, the FDA’s associate commissioner for external affairs. “Partnerships like this are an important part of the FDA’s effort to ensure the public has easy access to reliable, useful information that can help people protect and improve their health.
