Pain Management: Behavioral Changes The patient’s family is feeling helpless and the staff is frustrated. The patient has become more agitated and restless, not participating in their care. As you review the care plan, consider an assessment for the presence of pain. In Athena Forum’s Pain Management Module B: Acute Pain, Chapter 3 “Specific Populations”, you will find a listing of many behavior changes associated with pain as found in patients with cognitive issues. CV Risk: Reducing Risk of a Second Stroke Did you know that 25% of people who have a stroke are likely to have another stroke within the first five years? This is according to NINDS (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stokes). Find a full listing of risk-reducing life style changes that you can share with your patients in Module B: Stroke & the Case Manager’s Role in the CV Risk: Stroke & MI Athena Forum course. CDC.gov: Back-to-school shots

Industry headline: August has always been associated with ‘Back to School’ – even if you have been out of school for years and do not have children enrolled currently. It’s a time of getting prepared for the start of a “new” year. An item on the list of many parents is to be sure that their child’s immunization documentation is in order.

For all of us, regardless of age, being aware of your immunization recommendations and being up to date is extremely important. The Centers for Disease Control has designated August as National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). Visit the CDC’s website and find the immunization recommendations for all ages (www.cdc.gov – search for immunizations).
