Heart Disease and Depression – the connection Did you realize that “. . . everyone with depression is at increased risk for heart disease and everyone with heart disease is at increased risk for depression?”

In Athena Forum’s course on Women’s Health, Chapter 2 discusses the link between depression and heart disease. This Chapter asks the important questions: are people diagnosed with heart disease screened for depression and are people with depression screened for heart disease.

Developing the Plan Issues to consider when developing a care plan for patients with Depression, or at-risk for Depression (e.g. chronic conditions) include looking at return to work issues and disability. Please visit Chapter 5 of the Behavioral Health course for items that may be helpful in the assessment and planning phase of case management.

Excellence in Case Mgmnt
AHRQ is looking for your input: Now is the time to speak up about what can: improve adherence; manage resource utilization; improve satisfaction; improve patient self-care; improve outcomes…Case Management. The Effective Health Care Program (EHCP) is seeking public comments to what is called a ‘Key Question’: Comparative Effectiveness of Case Management for Adults with Medical Illness and Complex Care Needs. The research is asking for comments about the affect of case management on patient outcomes, resource utilization and process management. As Case Managers your comments can and will have a significant impact on how subsequent research and funding impacts our practice.
In 2009 EHCP was awarded additional funding for comparative effectiveness research. Please take a few minutes to participate. Click here.
In the Headlines . . .

You take care of your patients and your staff, now it's time to take care of yourself. This week is National Women's Health and Fitness Day. On September 29th sites around the country will be hosting events to promote activities that support wellness, health and fitness. Even if you are not participating in a special event, make that day the day to take that walk at lunchtime, or chose the yogurt/fruit parfait instead of the donut, or stop at the gym. Take care of yourself….stay fit…and have some fun.
