Patient Advocacy: Resource Factors

Case Management Society of America (CMSA) Standards of Practice for Case Management describes one of the Primary Case Manager Role Functions as the ability to maximize patient care while utilizing resources effectively.

"The case manager will seek to integrate factors related to quality, safety, access, and cost effectiveness in assessing, monitoring, and evaluating resources for the client's care....[The case manager will] promote the most effective and efficient use of healthcare services and financial resources."

  Improving Patient Care...

Quality of Care: HCM Vigilance

When resources are limited, quality patient care may have to mean a reasonable level of care, rather than a maximal level. With limited resources, the HCM needs to be ever vigilant to eliminate inefficiency and unnecessary expenses, especially ones that are a result of duplication or fragmentation of services.

Why Social Work Matters...

The social work profession has been instrumental in achieving civil rights and human rights advances in the United States and across the globe for more than a century. The primary mission of social work is to enhance human well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable.
