  Clinical Accuracy Spoken Here

PI: Critical Thinking: The Foundation of Case Management

Critical thinking forms the foundation of specialties like case management and infection control. These areas require strategizing, collaborative relationships and a multi-dimensional approach to tackling a problem.

Fostering critical thinking in CMs is a fundamental way to prepare for the catalytic and chaotic events they are sure to face as healthcare providers in a rapidly changing system.

EI: Can I Learn It?

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is viewed as another way to express the intelligent use of emotions where you intentionally make your emotions work for you by using them to help guide your behavior and thinking in ways that enhance your results.

EI is the "something" in each of us that is a bit intangible. EI refers to the ability to perceive, evaluate, reason with and manage emotions.

The relationship between learning and emotions has been recognized for centuries, and research clearly demonstrates that emotional intelligence can be learned.

PI: Failure to Communicate Causes Errors

The JC cites communication failures as the leading root cause for medication errors, delays in treatment, and wrong-site surgeries, as well as the second most frequently cited root cause for operative and postoperative events and fatal falls.

This places medical errors ahead of:

  • Accidents
  • Diabetes
  • Alzheimer's disease
  • AIDS
  • Breast cancer
  • Gunshot wounds
Medical errors caused by a failure to communicate are a pervasive problem in today's health care organizations.
