What's NEW at Athena Forum

Athena Forum 2016 Course Plan

An updated course on COPD was published 12.21.15. Two other courses will be totally renovated in 2016:

  • Hospital Revenue cycle
  • Utilization Management

In addition to course renovations, several new courses are in development. Here are three planned for 2016:

  • CM Power - new course for hospital CM Directors
  • Patient Engagement - new course for CMs in population health settings
  • Population Health Management - new course for care management teams in population health settings

Watch for announcements in the coming months on these exciting additions to the suite of courses on the Athena Forum course catalog.

Tips from our featured course

COPD Course Purpose

The purpose of Improving Outcomes in COPD Management is to educate case managers about COPD so that they may be aware of early warning signs and empowered to intervene and support the efforts of other transdisciplinary team members.

COPD- Reactive vs. Ongoing Care

Current primary care patterns for COPD focus on reactive care for acute exacerbations, often neglecting ongoing COPD management to the detriment of patient experience and outcomes.

Proactive diagnosis and ongoing multi-factorial COPD management can:

  • Significantly improve a patient's health-related quality of life
  • Reduce exacerbations and their consequences
  • Alleviate the functional, utilization, and financial burden of COPD

CMs are on the critical pathway to make these changes. Successful diagnosis and treatment of patients with COPD involves holistic care and a transdisciplinary team approach.
