What's NEW at Athena Forum

Course Renovations and Update

Staff at Athena Forum is busy updating, renovating and developing exciting new courses. With our goal of 10,000 pages of core curriculum, Athena Forum is moving forward to produce an array of educational topics for Case Managers in various care settings.

In the near future, you will see the following renovated courses:

  • Utilization Management
  • Inflammatory Bowel Disease - Crohn's and Ulcerative Colitis
  • Depression
  • Abuse
  • Harm Risk Behavior

And sometime this summer, a newly expanded Hospital Revenue Cycle course will be published. CM Express, one of our most popular courses, will be updated to incorporate concepts from the new versions of UM and Hospital Revenue Cycle.

Watch the Monday Memo for announcements about some new programming coming this fall, currently in the planning phase. Your feedback is a valuable resource and we continuously discuss and develop future programming based on your comments.

Tips from our featured course

UM Program Purpose

The purpose of Improving Outcomes in Utilization Management is to provide education and resources on the role of the case manager (CM) in implementing the full spectrum of utilization and resource management techniques required to:

  • Adhere to regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Employ UM and electronic health record (EHR) information technology
  • Lead the transdisciplinary care team
  • Engage patients in shared decision-making

As healthcare silos continue to diminish, CMs, including those in hospitals, health plans and the community, must understand one another's roles and complementary skills and work seamlessly together across the continuum of care to meet patient care needs.

Case Managers Are the Lynchpin in
Effective Resource Management

"CMs collaborate where the clinical and financial intersect. This unique perspective places CMs in a critical position to lead and educate other transdisciplinary team members."
